	As the largest creator-driven audio platform in the world, SoundCloud is the often first place creators and listeners connect to share and discover what’s new, now and next in music culture. 
SoundCloud launched First on SoundCloud in 2018 to celebrate some of SoundCloud’s most promising new acts and give them a platform to accelerate their careers. Since then, FOSC alums have gone on to be nominated for Grammys, build their own labels and&#38;nbsp; brands, and release award winning albums while staying independent. This year’s class spans genres and geos, but all embody the originality, connectivity and DIY work ethic that are core to the SoundCloud creator community.

Baby Rose

Fall 2019SoundCloud is a platform that allows artists to own their careers, and First on SoundCloud is a campaign that celebrates the DIY ethos of the brand’s creator community.

From first follow to first feature, Baby Rose is poised to lead the next generation of Atlanta R&#38;amp;B royalty.

Every artist’s journey begins somewhere, and this Fall SoundCloud will celebrate these artist stories through First on SoundCloud, a brand campaign that captures authentic moments of creation, collaboration, and community of creators who got their start on SoundCloud.


Baby Rose burst onto the scene in early 2019, garnering early attention from notable First on SoundCloud alum SZA and Kehlani. 
While 2019 marked her first release, Baby Rose has been performing since high school, using music as a vehicle to channel her creativity and cope with her sense of otherness. 

“I was just different. I stood out a lot, and I didn’t even really try to”Recognizing the power in her ability, Baby Rose found a sense of confidence, purpose, and community through music.


Since uploading her first tracks to SoundCloud, Baby Rose has been able to use the platform to find her voice, build her fanbase, and define her career on her terms.

In order to capture the truest representation of an artist's creative process and journey, we took a verité approach, embedding a skeleton production crew in the inner circle of the featured creators for a day. 
Capturing the authentic moments of collaboration and community of creators and their crews is critical in positioning SoundCloud as the premier destination of artists to connect, create, and grow their careers.
 
 Visually, the creative is raw and intimate. SoundCloud celebrates imperfection in an artist's creative journey, therefore the visual identity of this campaign is not clean, static, or sterile. Ensuring the creative is accessible and flexible is central to the overall look and feel. SoundCloud users are always in motion and the imagery is a reflection of the bold and energetic spirit of the brand’s diverse community. All these elements come together as a collage of video, photo, text, and handwriting, mixing the digital and physical to create something that is meant to feel grounded and authentic.

SoundCloud is a platform that allows artists to own their careers, and First on SoundCloud is a campaign that celebrates the DIY ethos of the brand’s creator community.

From first play to first platinum, 17 year old Lil Tecca went from rapping on the weekends to topping the charts, all before getting his drivers license.
Every artist’s journey begins somewhere, and this Fall SoundCloud will celebrate these artist stories through First on SoundCloud, a brand campaign that captures authentic moments of creation, collaboration, and community of creators who got their start on SoundCloud.New York native, Lil Tecca, got an unconventional start in music. In middle school, he began&#38;nbsp; making diss tracks about an Xbox friend. These tracks eventually found their way onto SoundCloud. By high school he’d sharpened his craft and was rapidly building a fanbase among his peers at school and on the internet. 

“Most of my drops is based off what the fans want. You gotta put yourself in front of people. You can’t just post on SoundCloud and think it’s going to go up”Lil Tecca, who just turned 17, is now the reigning king of viral rap, with the longest-running number-one single in SoundCloud history. Despite his meteoric rise to fame, he continues to evolve his sound and find his voice with each new release. 

“Back then I didn’t have all the knowledge to create the type of music that I am creating now, but the music I am creating now is the vision I had back then”As Lil Tecca continues his ascent, there’s no telling how far he can take it.&#38;nbsp;

At its core, First on SoundCloud is a campaign centered around discovery, elevation, and celebration of creativity and artistic expression. 
In order to capture the truest representation of an artist's creative process and journey, we took a verité approach, embedding a skeleton production crew in the inner circle of the featured creators for a day. 
Capturing the authentic moments of collaboration and community of creators and their crews is critical in positioning SoundCloud as the premier destination of artists to connect, create, and grow their careers.
 
 Visually, the creative is raw and intimate. SoundCloud celebrates imperfection in an artist's creative journey, therefore the visual identity of this campaign is not clean, static, or sterile. Ensuring the creative is accessible and flexible is central to the overall look and feel. SoundCloud users are always in motion and the imagery is a reflection of the bold and energetic spirit of the brand’s diverse community. All these elements come together as a collage of video, photo, text, and handwriting, mixing the digital and physical to create something that is meant to feel grounded and authentic.

Fall 2019SoundCloud is a platform that allows artists to own their careers, and First on SoundCloud is a campaign that celebrates the DIY ethos of the brand’s creator community.From first comment, to first collab, Na-Kel Smith is redefining the side hustle. 
Every artist’s journey begins somewhere, and this Fall SoundCloud will celebrate these artist stories through First on SoundCloud, a brand campaign that captures authentic moments of creation, collaboration, and community of creators who got their start on SoundCloud.Los Angeles native, Na-Kel Smith has been in the public eye since he was a teenager, gaining notoriety as a professional skateboard for Supreme and member of Odd Future. He has since collaborated with Adidas and starred in films like Mid-90s.Na-Kel Smith got his start in music when his childhood friend, Tyler the Creator pushed him to cut a verse on his track Trashwang. From there he started regularly collaborating and touring with other members of Odd Future. Bringing a frenetic and chaotic style to his music is Na-Kel’s calling card.

“I am a skateboarder. I make my music in a way that skateboarders would. I know what gets me fired up”While Na-Kel didn’t officially start making music until he was almost 20, music was deeply ingrained in his upbringing. He cites his parents, specifically his mother, as major musical influences. She was the “first person that put me on to Slayer, first person that put me on to any type of metal, or punk, or soul, or hip-hop”

“My dad put me onto some good songs, but my mom put me onto full genres”.The style and pulse of Na-Kel’s skateboarding is clear by his musical output. The speed and accessibility and creativity are also clear.
 “Sometimes you gotta drop that song in that moment. That’s my favorite thing about SoundCloud”.

The energy and excitement Na-Kel brings to everything he does is contagious and there’s no wonder he continues to be someone to watch as we look to 2020.

To showcase the unique people-powered communities that make up the SoundCloud eco-system, the campaign will feature real listener reacting to tracks of real artists.

The creative will be realized through a mix of high-contrast black-and-white and color imagery, featuring fans and artists interacting with each other within the composition. Listener quotes and track attributions will highlight the on-platform interaction that makes SoundCloud unique.

To execute the concept, the shoot will take place in a live concert environment. Invites will be extended to the top 1% of the performing artists fans. The venue will be small, intimate, and have with a low riser stage, bringing fans closer to the artists they love.

The entire evening will be captured by a handful of up-and-coming photographers and videographers, who will each provide their own unique perspectives on the evening.

	In Spring of 2019 SoundCloud launched its first foray into on-platform editorial programming with the goal of organically driving listening time, discovery, artist support, and ultimately convert passive free tier listeners into highly-engaged paid subscribers of the platform. 
Through data analysis and expert knowledge, SoundCloud’s editorial team leveraged signals to develop a robust and differentiated listening experience that supports and honors the communities and genres that emerge and thrive on SoundCloud.Visually, the challenge was defining and developing a scalable design system that represents the diverse communities SoundCloud serves while ensuring that the content and visual identity are fully differentiated from what you might see on other streaming platforms.

	The identity is broken out by franchise and genre based on an in-depth taxonomy developed by the editorial team. Hip-Hop should feel different than electronic and electronic should feel different than rock. Within any given genre there is a hierarchy of visual representation. A top 40 Hip-Hop playlist should feel cleaner than a basement trap playlist from an emerging Carolina collective. 
While each genre has distinct design features, color palettes, pattern libraries, we designed the system to allow maximum flexibility to evolve and grow the visual identity as music and culture change. Since launch, over 400 (and growing) custom playlists have been manually created by SoundCloud.
